Politicians in democratic countries are almost powerless to act because the public is so ill informed and apathetic. The public is generally aware of the dangers and willing to pay for action - but what action? Actions proposed by many voices are soothing and baffling expedients which are not likely alone to bring us a safe climate. Hasty initiatives, like ethanol production, have backfired.
